Kanye Wests G.O.O.D. Music Imprint Inks Deal With Def Jam

Kanye West

Although Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music imprint has spawned the careers of Big Sean, Kid Cudi and Cyhi Da Prince along with the signing of Common and John Legend, the label never had an official home – until now. Kanye can now count his label as part of the Island Def Jam family after inking a worldwide label agreement deal that will feature protégé Big Sean as the first artist to benefit from the new partnership.

The announcement came this morning from Kanye West, Universal Motown Republic Group and Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman & CEO Barry Weiss, and President & COO of Island Def Jam Music Group Steve Bartels. Big Sean will be the first G.O.O.D. Music signee to have a project released via the label agreement, with his debut album Finally Famous seeing release (June 28).

Barry Weiss gave Kanye a glowing nod via a statement regarding the deal. “As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye. We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing to G.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean,” said Mr. Weiss. Steve Bartels added, “Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront.”

It also seems another member of the G.O.O.D. Music family tree has reason to celebrate as well as Kanye’s fellow Windy City native Common signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records last Friday. No word yet if the former Universal Music signee inked this latest deal with Warner under the G.O.O.D. Music umbrella.

Kanye West debuted as a Def Jam artist in 2004 with his critically acclaimed album The College Dropout, which began a run of five straight platinum selling albums for Kanye. Established in 2004, G.O.O.D. Music has grown in recent times with the signings of rapper Pusha-T, Nigerian act D’Banj and folk band Bon Iver.

Throwbakk Tuesday Fashion: Reebok Back!!!

After a much long awaited wait, we are taking this one back to 1998 in this edition of Throwbakk Tuesdays showing love to Cash Money Records as they kind of set the bar for a lot of things in hip hop especially a sneaker trend. Since Swizz Beatz  just signed a deal with Reebok it was only right to show love to the forefathers. Soulja Ree’s were a trend set by the Hot Boys and many who listened followed suit growing up to buy the same sneakers that the Hot Boys rapped about which were Reebok Classics. Saying that they set the bar for a lot of things in hip hop is more or less talking about “Brian Baby” Williams being a strategic business man. He is the one that structured the Hot Boys of Cash Money to have a Reebok deal and that was the blue print for Hip Hop artists nowadays such as B.O.B. , Fabolous, 50 Cent, and Hova have all had Reebok sneaker deals. Lil Wayne sure has come along way but he really couldn’t have done it without the Hot Boys and also the business mindset of Baby.

#3                   Nicki Minaj Named Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2011 BET Awards

It was definitely not a shocker when Nicki Minaj was named the Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2011 BET Awards. Even presenter Keri Hilson had to comment on the fact that the winner was, of course, Young Money’s rap reigning princess.

Minaj was up against rappers Diamond, Cymphonique and Lola Monroe, who aren’t too big on the mainstream scene as of right now...or any scene for that matter. Tsk! Tsk!

Cymphonique "Master P's Daughter" Miller, will star in the upcoming Nickelodeon series “How to Rock
*At least she still has time.

Minaj had a semi-poor choice of words during her opening sentence, unintentionally making a sarcastic-sounding remark when she said, “Wow I can’t believe I won.” When the audience began to laugh, she tried to back track, stumbling as she said, “No, no, no. Not like that!”

#1 Nicki Minaj Fan - Tiffany Greene

In the most awkward moment of the night, Nicki Minaj’s self proclaimed biggest fan, Tiffany Green, came out on stage to announce the winner of the BET’s Viewer’s Choice Awards with Terrance and Rocsi. She first announced that the winner was “Chris Brown, Look At Me Now” and then flipped the script (literally) and said, “I”m sorry, It’s Rihanna – What’s My Name.” Drake, of course, being featured on the song, came up to accept the award, beginning his speech with, “Well, this is awkward…”

After the mix up, Tiffany took to her twitter page and accused BET of setting her up.

BET Executive Stephen "TweetingFromTheUnemployment Line" Hill posted that the mix up was due to an human error

That BET Awards Viewer’s Choice mix-up was due to human error. And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected.

Meanwhile, DJ "TweetingFromFabolousCouch/WhoKnewIWasStillAlive" Clue tweeted what everyone was thinking

That’s f*cked up.. They made @drakkardnoir come out & do an Acceptance speech for an award he aint win. SMMFH....I'm #SMH @ your lack of ability to make a complete sentence Mr. Clue.

And the #1 #YEEZYSHRUG MOMENT OF 2011 GOES TO.......INSERT DRUM ROLL HERE........IN A LANDSLIDE VICTORY............
