He calls himself a chameleon because of his ability to blend in with anyone and anything. That alone makes R&B artist Tone Yates stand out. At a mere 22 years of age, Yates has established himself as a world-class producer, writer, and engineer with a thorough knowledge of how to create hit records.

If asked how he landed a career in entertainment, Yates will say he was born into it. He credits his widely acclaimed father (Anthony Yates, pianist/guitarist of Sly and the Family Stone) with teaching him everything he has learned about music. His mother and two sisters are also no strangers to the main stage; all have sung, danced, or played an instrument professionally. Aside from his home life, Yates has also been influenced by his hometown of Memphis, TN – a mecca for hip hop, blues, jazz, and rock.

After mastering music production for some of the South’s R&B greats, Tone Yates took a leap of faith and began writing and harmonizing on some of his tracks. The response from all who listened was phenomenal and left Yates considering a more visible position in entertainment. In 2010, Yates recorded his first full length record, “Hotel”, uploaded it to YouTube so that his social networking followers could hear it, and the rest is history.
Tone Yates has gained recognition from Universal Records, A&R/manager Memphitz, programming directors, radio promotions groups, and many major artists.. As he transitions into R&B with his first official single “Twitter After Dark,” Yates anticipates staying connected to the engineering aspect of creating great music.

While the never cliché Timberland and always inspiring John Legend serve as his creative role models, Yates credits the work ethics of R. Kelly and Trey Songz as key influencers to his hustle. Ironically, Yates’ has evolved into a myriad of all four artists: his spirited beats are often laced with mature lyrics that encompass sex, love, and enjoying life. His charismatic personality and seductive originality have allowed him to quickly rise in the ranks as a force on the competitive music scene.
