FLOETRY FRIDAYS

MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING

SHOE-ICIDE [10 Min Short Film Directed by @Premier_Guy]

DIRECTED BY EDWARD WORTHY

"Adapted from a poem written by Nija Morenike' Matory, Shoeicide details the life of a young woman who goes from rags to riches and becomes so enamored by material possesions, most favorably her expensive shoes, provided by her husband, that she excuses his infidelity, mental, physical, and emotional abuse. The cycle continues until she is terminally affected by her husbands actions and she takes her own life."

FLOETRY FRIDAYS

Steven "Dok" Randle

Steven I. Randle was born and raised in Vicksburg, Ms.  His passion for writing starting at a young age, but the depth and crux of his words came after leaving the University of Southern Mississippi in a way that did not include a cap...or a gown.  His writing reflects real life in a very 'in your face', 'no holds barred' manner.  Whether in the genre of poetry, spoken word, or a variety of prose, Steven paints a portrait of the essence of reality in all of its splendor and grit.

Sonnet

“Essence of Carpe Diem”

For Time has no respect or love for love.

In Time all cherished things shall drift away.

Mine eyes doth blink the changing stars above.

And Seasons come and go with dews of day.

What thing will boldly halt the hands that fly? Such heroes only come with tales and dreams. As if sea serpents soon reside in skies. And birds were born to navigate the streams.

So woe is he who fails to come to see.

The tribulations that force one to live.

For death will rise as waters leap the sea

And life that halts was never yours to give.

Beauty and wisdom come to those who know

That time lives on beyond the lives below.

FLOETRY FRIDAYS

Soul Wasted

Sometimes I feel as if I am wasting my soul
on merchants that are shopping for bargains
trying to get the best deals
on my heart and dreams
it seems
as if my meekness is mistaken for weakness
my morals and sin have befriended
puzzling my mentality
so
I’m often misunderstood
but…
I refuse to mute my tongue
my rights are shaking hands with my wrongs
becoming acquainted
showing me the right way
but I still feel the need for a GPS system
to navigate my feelings

my spirit is shaken up
and is pouring over the edge of life
like fizz from a shaken soda
losing its contents on dehydrated moochers
thirsting for my compassion
I’m not heartless
but I’m lacking sympathy
for those that don’t respect my destiny
I’m only…
five feet and two inches
but I don’t need a ladder
to reach my prosperity
I breed my dreams with struggles
to birth realities
I battle tribulations for what I have and need
Ya see…
I appreciate it more if it doesn’t come easily

there is no negotiating with time
this world spins on its axis 24/7
nonstop
I stay on this grind
my future is impatient
getting irritated with irrelevant delays
my purse is full of my humbleness
but…
I can no longer afford to have
my soul wasted.
