Kanye Wests G.O.O.D. Music Imprint Inks Deal With Def Jam

Kanye West

Although Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music imprint has spawned the careers of Big Sean, Kid Cudi and Cyhi Da Prince along with the signing of Common and John Legend, the label never had an official home – until now. Kanye can now count his label as part of the Island Def Jam family after inking a worldwide label agreement deal that will feature protégé Big Sean as the first artist to benefit from the new partnership.

The announcement came this morning from Kanye West, Universal Motown Republic Group and Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman & CEO Barry Weiss, and President & COO of Island Def Jam Music Group Steve Bartels. Big Sean will be the first G.O.O.D. Music signee to have a project released via the label agreement, with his debut album Finally Famous seeing release (June 28).

Barry Weiss gave Kanye a glowing nod via a statement regarding the deal. “As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye. We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing to G.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean,” said Mr. Weiss. Steve Bartels added, “Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront.”

It also seems another member of the G.O.O.D. Music family tree has reason to celebrate as well as Kanye’s fellow Windy City native Common signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records last Friday. No word yet if the former Universal Music signee inked this latest deal with Warner under the G.O.O.D. Music umbrella.

Kanye West debuted as a Def Jam artist in 2004 with his critically acclaimed album The College Dropout, which began a run of five straight platinum selling albums for Kanye. Established in 2004, G.O.O.D. Music has grown in recent times with the signings of rapper Pusha-T, Nigerian act D’Banj and folk band Bon Iver.
